my computer infected w/W32.Swen.A@mm worm

I'm trying to utilize Symantec help w/removing this worm,
BUT evidently, worm has taken over administrative
privileges and I'm unable to proceed. By following
Symantec instructions, I created a repair.reg file on
desktop, but when I double-click on it, window pops up
saying "registry editing has been disabled by your
administrator." I get similiar messages when I try to
open:
internet options/system etc. in control panel. Message
says:" Windows cannot access the specified device, path,
or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to
access the item."
I cannot repair registry following Symantec instructions
unless I can "fix" this administrator problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks, Charlie

Charlie;
Go to Safe Mode and try it.
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Select Administrator.

I have exactly the same problem as Charlie.

One of the things the worm attacked was to remove my
status as administrator...I think I may have retrieved
it... but I still tried going into safe mode. No
adminsitrator option was provided. And I still got the
same response that registry editing has been disabled by
the administrator.

Any other ideas?

.
Charlie I got it! I got it! I got it!

First: go into control panel / system tools/ local users
and groups. I noticed that the administrator function
had no name assigned to it. I made one up, different
from my default name.

Second: copy the repair.reg file that norton suggested
you create onto a diskette.

Third: reboot and use F8 to log in Safe mode. You will
suddenly see and option to sign is as administrator using
the new name you create in #1 above.

Fourth: once you're in, there's no problem to open the
repair.reg file that you've created off of the diskette.

Fifth: reboot normally. Voila. all problems gone.

I also used the virus removal download from norton to rid
me of the virus.
