Multiple Versions of XP at Startup

First of all, thanks to all of you pros that help out those of us less
fortunate with computers....

My question: I reinstalled XP Pro on my laptop (full format, the works).
Works like a charm (faster, etc.), but there's one irritating thing I can't
get rid of: when I boot up, I get a listing of 2 versions of Win XP Pro. Why
this is, I don't know, but is there a way to remove the 2nd one on the list
and not have the boot process get stuck for 30 seconds here?

Thanks!

click start.. click Run
type in "msconfig"
in the box that opens click the "boot.ini" tab
click the box that says "check all boot paths"
that should get rid of the non-existing path.

You can also see if the same path is listed twice while that is open.
