MSN 6.1

Hi,
Working with XP Home SP1 with all the updates!

I just downloaded the new version of MSN Messenger 6.1
and have now noticed in Add and Remove programes list
that there are 2 MSN Messenger programes, 6.0 with 5.34
MB and 6.1 with 15.93 MB? Windows Messenger 5.0 has
disapeared from Add and Remove programes list but is
still in the start menue list and still works?

Do I uninstall version 6.0 from Add and Remove list?

Thanks

Greetings Stephen,

That's very unusual -- it should have removed the 6.0 entry (did you upgrade from a previous
version of Windows with MSN Messenger?). Regardless, you can try just uninstalling the 6.0
one to see if that takes it away -- most likely you may need to reinstall 6.1 (don't worry,
it won't add two 6.1 entries).

Hi Jonathan,
No I did not upgrade from a previous version of Windows,
but installed MSN 8 which put MSN Messenger on as well. I
then upgaded to version 6.0 then to 6.1 and then noticed
the two, 6.0 & 6.1 together in the Add & Remove list! I
did as you asked and uninstalled v.6.0 and all seems ok,
and which seems did not effect v6.1. Windows Messenger
5.0 still works, although it's still missing from the Add
& Remove programe list?

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

Windows Messenger 5 isn't added to the Add/Remove list -- it's part of Windows, if you click
the Add/Remove Windows Components, you'll find it there (but that's not really an
uninstallation, just removes the shortcuts).

If you really *want* to remove Windows Messenger 5, it can be done by doing the following --
click Start, then Run, type (or copy/paste) the following:
msiexec.exe /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138}
and then click OK.

Thanks Jonathan,

I want to keep it, but I thought it was in the add remove
list!

Thanks
