Mouse freezes on startup................

Greetings all,

Would appreciate any assistance on this.

This just started yesterday : on first bootup of the day
after my desktop is up and everything looks normal,
my mouse froze when I put it in the task bar area.

I rebooted and it happend again. Never seen this one
before.

I rebooted again and it even did it when I put the cursor over
an icon on my desktop.

I rebooted and replaced the mouse with another one I have.

Everything works fine. No freeze.

So now I'm thinking all is well. It was for the remainder of
yesterday.

Today when I booted up, same problem. The mouse would freeze
in the task bar.

This time I rebooted and all I did was pull the mouse plug out
from the back of my computer and plug it back in.

Everything works fine for now.

Appreciate any insights.

Thankyou.

First I would check for any invasions (after pulling the network plug to
prevent new infestations), using AVAST!, SpybotSD, and AdAware.

Then look to Control Panel | Mouse, and then to Control Panel | System
to see if any drivers are in conflict. You may have more than one mouse
driver installed (don't ask). You get that far, try deleting all mouse
drivers (assuming you know where your mouse driver files are, to
reimplement) and rebooting, letting the system reload them.

Then I would g00gle on the problem, something like:
win 2000 mouse freeze

see what's there (will likely be a lot), probly something on the MS site
about it. Frankly I have found more help on MS by going through a
google search than by going at it from their support pages. They are
about as organized as their OS are secure, if you catch my meaning.

Sounds like it could be a dodgy PS2 port.

Have you tried a USB mouse to see if that has the same trouble?
