Mouse does an extra click problem

I have a normal mouse which has been fine up until now, it has a left and
right button and scroll wheel, no extra buttons. Now about 1 in 2 or 3 times
i click or double click, the mouse seems to 'add' a click, converting a
single click into double, or a double into being a double followed by a
single. This makes it nearly impossible to use the computer with the mouse, i
was in the middle of doing coursework and found this out when i was trying to
highlight parts to cut and it would just unselect them after i highlighted,
straight awat. Im using Windows XP Pro, and was in Microsoft Word 2003 at the
time, but it happens on everything. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling mouse and drivers, i have rebooted several times, ran a virus
scam returning nothing, removed alot of programs from startup. Everything i
could think of, could someone please help me with this

Sounds like the micro switch in the mouse is flakey. Time for a new
mouse.
