monitoring when software gets installed

I'm trying to police my computer of spyware software that
gets installed via pop-ups. Sometimes the kids will click
on the OK button to get rid of the pop-up not knowing
that it installs bad software that slows down the PC.

My question is, is there any way to list the lastest
software that gets installed on a system. The add/remove
program window doesn't really provide that information.
Would appreciate any help with this.
