Monitor - text appears blurred/smeared

Very recently my monitor started displaying the text slightly blurred/smeared
BUT only in a specific area of the monitor; a vertical line dead centre of
the screen, and about 5cm's wide. All other text outside of this area
appears perfectly normal.

I've tried changing various settings to 'default settings' and even carried
out 'system/monitor troublshooting' in an attempt to cure the problem, but to
no avail.

Any ideas??.................. Would be very grateful if somebody could help
me.

If you have a friend with a PC, ask if he/she would let you borrow
their monitor and hook it up to see if the problem is still there. If
not, then you can visit Circuit City, Best Buy or eBay, etc. If it is,
then it could be your video card with the same resolve.
