Monitor Resolution Problem

I have a machine about 5 years old for which I just purchased a new wide
screen monitor. The new monitor requires a resolution setting of 1440x900,
but when I go to display property/settings this setting is not available and
the screen resolution is distorted. How can I resolve this problem?

Thanks

John

It's an issue with your graphic adapter, see if you can get new drivers
for your adapter. If the adapter cannot support the resolution you will
have to replace it.

Did you install the monitor's inf file? I used a 1680x1050 LCD
on a system with a 6 year old ATI 9600XT card. The 9600XT
was able to set the proper resolution after the monitor's inf
was installed. A later video driver wouldn't hurt either, if
one is available.
