Monitor performance

What would be some prime system counters to watch in the 'system monitor '?
I want to check for Ram/Disk performance to see if this cpu is thrashing. I
know that if I add Ram, perfomance will improve but I want something to
confirm this. Need a method to take guesswork out.

Memory - pages/sec
PhyDisk - Disk transfer/sec
avail memory

Can someone point me to a source for ref?

See How much Pagefile does your system use? @

Also http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_pagefilemon.htm will monitor
it over time auto.
