MMC cannot open the file

I am running Windows XP and have an error every time I
try to run an MMC console (compmgmt.msc, eventvwr.msc,
secpol.msc, etc...)

Error reads:

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\compmgmt.msc.

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an
MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC.
This may also be because you do not have sufficient
access rights to the file.

Upon investigation:

1. The files certainly do exist.
2. The are MMC consoles properly associated in
the "Folder Options | File Types".
3. I have MMC version 2.0
4. I am logged on as Administrator
5. I can launch MMC 2.0, add plugins, but when I try to
save them:

"MMC cannot save the console."

Any help would be much appreciated - I don't want to do a
complete re-install if I can help it.

Hi,

I am experiencing the same problem.

Has anyone solved the problem or am I going to have to
make new consoles every time i want to use it until i
have time to do a full reinstall?

Register dll

Run command regsvr32 msxml3.dll in the Windows RUN dialog (Press WINDOWS + R, or RUN... from start menu to get the dialog)
