Boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt and copy...

%windir%\ServicePackFiles\i386\wininet.dll

to

%windir%\system32

If %windir%\ServicePackFiles\i386\wininet.dll does not exist...

{ assuming you inXP CDROM is in the "D:" drive }

Copy d:\i386\wininet.dll %windir%\system32

However, chances are hat will be an old version and will have to be updated.
The patch associated with KB905915 can be used.

You should be able to recover that file using the recovery console if you
have a copy of windows xp to boot from.

It should be wininet.dll.

Use the Recovery Console from your XP CD and then use the EXPAND command
to copy a replacement for wininet.dll to \Windows\System32\:

Boot from the Windows XP installation CD-ROM (make sure your primary
boot device is the CD-ROM drive;change in the BIOS to do that),then use
the EXPAND command:

expand d:\i386\wininet.dl_ c:\windows\system32\wininet.dll

(where d:=your CD-ROM)

Then type EXIT and restart the machine.

I have a tool that I wrote that will replace it for you. Check your email
for the link.

Only download software you can validate as uncompromised - in the case
of non-vendor site you have no guarantee that the files are unmodified
or uncompromised. Anyone providing a link to a non-vendors site with a
direct download should not be trusted, the vendors sites are the safest
place to download their application.

No person of sound mind would download files from a hack site that
requires a password to access the unknown files when they are available
directly from the vendors. No reputable person would ask you to send
them an email in order to get a reputable link for a fix that could be
posted publically.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

You posted this same question to the windowsxp.basics group on
1/12/6 and received some of the same advice you've been given
here. If you aren't able to fix the problem using any of this
advice maybe this time you might want to post back and let
people know what happens when you try these suggestions.

What is the exact content of the error message you receive when
you try to logon to XP? Does it say wininit.dll or wininet.dll?
Wininit.dll is not a legitimate Windows XP file. If that file
was on your computer at some point in time, odds are it was
placed there by a virus or trojan.

Also, do yourself a favor. Never download files from a link
contained in an email you receive that claims to have a
solution to your problem. You would be dealing with a source
who should not be trusted. Any tools that he may claim to
possess were not created by him and may indeed make the problem
worse.

Good luck

What solution did you offer to fix their problem?.Oh that's right you are
not smart enough to offer any solution so all you can do is criticize the
smart ones. Dummy.

BTW I'm glad your sorry ass Pat's lost.

If by "smart enough" you're referring to your ability to steal
other people's work and pass it off as your own then I'll have
to admit, you've got me beat on that one. That's a skill that
you've really mastered.

Just out of curiosity, does Aeisedi translate to "person who
steals spyware tools"?

Happy MLK day,
