Minor Bug in VISTA Ultimate - Release Version

First off, Microsoft support wouldn't take my bug report. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
I'm trying to help them and they push me off to make another phone call. I've
wasted enough time on this.

Minor behaviour bug, but it is there... made me go to Google to figure out
what changed. Will make a lot of people panic thinking they lost their files
or data.

It is a minor issue:

I needed to make a host file entry to get my exchange access working.

So I opened up Notepad, file open, went to Windows/System32

The listing of files in System32 was large, so when I clicked the scroll bar
to go down a "page" to find the drivers directory, it wasn't there.

So I looked up on Google how to change the host file in Vista... (assuming
it moved) and saw that it should be in that folder.

I did it again, (went to load up the file in Notepad), in system32, clicked
on the scroll bar to go down a page, and the drivers folder wasn't there.

Then that's when I noticed this behavioral bug. Clicking on the scroll down
(not the arrow buttons, the actual scroll bar to go down a whole page),
actually SKIPPED files. In my case with Vista Ultimate 32bit, two files. One
of which was the Drivers folder.

Now this might seem minor but it was enough to make me check Google and
re-do it twice before I found out the problem/bug... If this is happening
throughout the system, I suspect that a lot of people will think that some
files are missing or overwrite files that already exist but "aren't listed"

I've been using this stuff since Windows 3.0 and I was a little surprised
that such a major problem wasn't found yet. Makes me wonder what else is not
working right just yet.

I am also angry at Microsoft for making it so impossible to report a bug
without being submitted to hell first. As the web site instructs, call the
support line to report a bug, was on hold for abour 30 minutes, told them I
was in Canada and they said I have to report the bug using Canada and here is
the telephone number... I told them that they can call me if they think they
want to fix a bug in their product. Stupid... Try to help and get on hold
crapola.

Funny, I just tried doing that and I could see the drivers folder right
there without any problem.
Never skipped any files or folders when I did it.

IF you have the mouse wheel set to scroll a page at a time or anything more
than ONE line at a time then maybe.
I always set the scroll to one line at a time and never use the scroll bar.

Arrange files so that all folders are at the top.
Also scrolling one page at a time even in XP could cause"skipped"folders if
the folders were not in tidy order.

I haven't seen that in either Ultimate or Home Premium editions.

While on the subject of bugs though, I don't recall seeing anyone
mention in here a bug I reported that the EULA and any other terms can
not be viewed properly in Vista during installs because the viewing
window does not wrap nor scroll to the right. This is part of the same
bug I reported about how many windows seem to be based on the XP/2003
dimensions, and not the smaller windows (read: thicker borders) Vista
uses to display where text is chopped off by the edge of the window.
Very sloppy GUI in that regard.

Your bug does not reproduce here, Vista RTM Ultimate. Clicking on the
scroll bar one time in file open within Notepad shows the drivers folder.

What is happening Rock is that if you have the mouse set to advance one full
page at a click of the scroll wheel, or click on the scroll bar (which will
also advance the file window one full page), the page actually scrolls a
page plus two lines. I constantly have to use the up arrow key to see what
has been bypassed due to this action. I have seen this on more than a dozen
varying computers running Vista RTM.

It's a shame I didn't see this earlier during the RC's as I would have
bugged the same to Microsoft. They will now have to fix this in an update or
SP1.
