MIDI problems; roll back to XP

Just got a new notebook with Vista installed. Like it OK, but having MIDI
problems. The consensus in the music community is there's not many stable
Vista drivers out there yet for MIDI software and hardware, and everybody's
just rolling back to XP.

Have an OEM copy of XP that I installed on a desktop computer that died
about a year ago. Haven't used it since. Can I just format the hard drive on
my notebook and install that copy of XP?

ahhh yes.. YARWVS = yet another reason why vista stinks..

No.
The oem version of XP cannot be installed on another machine.

Sure he can if he has the product key to enter. (some OEM's like Dell won't
install on another computer)

It should only be installed on one PC.

OEM remains and dies on the machine it is first installed on.

Now if you can get around that limitation is another story...

Also some stores sell OEM with other hardware like a mouse...
I don't know if that means that the license is tied to the mouse alone.. I
doubt it.

Some vendors define the "pc" as the Motherboard.

Maybe OEM remains and dies on the machine on paper, but with one copy, one
PC, there should be no reason that he can't install it. I've done it many
times with an OEM copy tied to hardware other than a PC.

Not a big deal and he shouldn't even give it a second thought. I never do !

it is against the EULA... Im just giving him the facts...

to bend the eula is pirating if you want to follow it.

If I think its logical or if there are ways to ignore it.. its another
story.

I prefer the Mac arrangment.. you pay 199 for mac osx and you can install it
on 5 of your computers. I see that as logical.

perhaps MS should learn a few things from them...
