Microsoft Search Companion

Whenever I run a search with Seach Companion, it attaches
itself to my files and folders. If I click on an affected
folder, instead of opening it, it opens seach companion.
In order to access these files I have to right click on
the folder and choose open. I know that ususally the
options on a folder are in the order of open, explore then
search. Companion is changing this order and putting
itself first. Does anyone know how I can stop this and
correct my affected folders?

If you'd like disable that damn dog altogether, paste this into notepad,
save the file as disabledog.reg (be sure to use .reg file extension, not
..txt - select "ALL FILES" from "Save as type" when saving). Then double
click the file and answer yes to the prompt about merging the data into the
registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Cabine
tState]
"Use Search Asst"="no"

This will go into effect the next time you log on, iirc.
