Microsoft AntiSpyware: NiceToHave = Scan and ShutDown

I think it would be a nice feature to have a AntiSpyware scan as a selective
part of a shut down. It should start with a network close and then in a
"safe" state perform a Scan before shut down. At next start up there should
be at report of the previous scan result.

This would hamper those trying to shutdown a machine and do not expect to be
unduly delayed such as a laptop user shutting it down to walk away with it.
Why do you think a scan on shutdown is more important/required then the
continuous protection available as well as regular or manual scans ?

Hmmmm? I think the OP's key word was "selective". If you want to you
can and if not then you don't have to.

I think it's a great idea.

People are always complaining about long shutdown times and you want to make
it longer. The user with little or no computer knowledge (about 90% of the
users) will be crying the blues for certain. They will turn this "feature"
on because they don't know, or care, what it does. A friend will tell them
to do it. They will not even begin to put 2 + 2 together and find out why
shutdown is taking 5 minutes.

Mike,

As Richard Urban said in his post on this thread: (paraphrased) 90% of
computer users have limited or no computer knowledge.

The number of messages on these newsgroups concerning people running
their spyware/adware utilities du jour, which doesn't clean their
machine properly, and the subsequent followup to run the program in
safe mode, and the subsequent followup asking how to get into safe
mode and the subsequent followup telling them how, would be reduced if
the suggestion the OP gave came about.......(again paraphrased) the
program would be run at shutdown in a safe mode state.

I'm not here to challenge you. I've always appreciated your (and
every MSVP's) comments and help. My views are my opinion only.
As we all know, everyone has one.

Regards,

Buck
