Microphone -- no recognition, no speech recognition tab..

Hi,

Whenever I try to use my microphone with my computer, and I am totally sure
that the microphone is in the right jack, the computer does not recognize it,
and when I try to go to "Speech Recognition" through Speech in the control
panel, there is no tab for "speech recognition". There is only "text to
speech". Is there any way to fix this?

Add it with Office. It's not installed by default IIRC. You'll then have
speech recognition (for all that it's worth) in your Office applications.

Out of the box, XP only offers text-to-voice. It has the underpinnings for
voice-to-text and voice commands. Unless software is installed that
operates on those underpinnings or on its own engine, there is no voice
recognition capability.

Examples: If selected during Office setup, the Office programs will install
voice features that use the XP underpinnings. Speech software such as
Naturally Dragon Speaking provides speech features using its own engine.

I have the same problem as Clincher. There's no speech recognition tab. I
understand that I must now install it, but that creates another problem. My
computer crashed, and as I live overseas and various etc etc a technician
installed the latest windows so I don't have the software. Can I get the
software by download from the Internet, if so, how? Also, do I actually need
it? I don't want to use any speech recognition software. My problem is that
when trying to use Skype, no one can here my voice at all. The microphone is
plugged into the microphone jack. What's the problem?
