Microphone problem.

Hello,
Can anyone help me? My new microphone won't work. After checking the
connection socket, volume levels and mute tick-box, I then went through the
windows XP help and support. It suggests that I should access 'Speech' in the
Control Panel and then click on the 'speech recognition Tab'. I don't have
such a tab, which implies that I need to install a 'speech recognition
engine'. However the two ways it says that I can do this are either through
re-installlling (with an additional setting) officeXP or through MS Word2002.
I only have Office 97 which doesn't seem to have anything on resembling a
'speech recognition engine'. Any ideas very gratefully received.
Thankyou,
Mark.

Hi,

Office97 doesn't have that engine, you'd need OfficeXP or 2003. But that
doesn't necessarily leave you out in the cold. That engine is used for
speech to text services, etc. However, you should find something in the
Control Panel/Sound and Audio on the Audio tab, there should be an input
device. If this setting doesn't exist, then you need an updated driver set
for the sound card (assuming that the card supports an input device).

Thanks for your advice Rick. I do have 2? entries for sound recording under
the 'Sound and Audio' Audio tab. Neither of them have anything to do with my
microphone it seems. One is the default setting the computer came with I
think, and the other is something called 'Modem #0 line record'.
Any further ideas,

Many thanks, Mark.

Hi,

The default one may be the sound input the system came with, I would start
with that.

Hello,

I've tried the default option and also the modem option but neither work.
Anything else I can try?

Mark.
