I see this is a major issue.
I'm running XP Home. I had Messenger 4.7 until I got a
message warning of dire consequences if I didn't upgrade
immediately to Messenger 6.0.
I upgraded, only to find both icons in my tray and both
programs on my system. I manually deleted version 4.7.
All seemed well.
Now I'm trying to set up a friend's computer so that she
can call on me for Remote Assistance, and I keep being
told that I don't have the latest version of Messenger
when all indications are to the contrary.
I used the same version 6 installer file on my friend's
computer and hers has no trouble recognising the version
and allowing Remote Assistance. The problem is at my end.
I've tried repairing version 6 using the installer file -
no success. I've tried uninstalling 6, going back to 4.7
and then reinstalling 6 in the hope program files will be
written properly - no success. (By the way MS, you need
to put the prefix "un" in the uninstall dialogue box). I
thought of trying the un/install game with version 5 too,
but it's an 8 meg download.
This ought to be so frigging simple:
New version of program overwrites old.
It works.
What is your problem Microsoft!
