Hi,

I have the normal Messenger and MSN Messenger (which I prefer) - Anyone know
how I can turn off the normal Messenger when I boot up and have just the MSN
Messenger start?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

Control Panel/Add & Remove/Windows Components, uninstall the Windows
Messenger.

Go here: http://www.dougknox.com/ . When you get there, click "Win XP Tips"
on the left side of the window/next scroll down the right side and you will
find two script files for Windows Messenger, one to disable and one to
remove it. Make your choice.

Yea the problem with Windows XP is that Windows messenger is always on,
despite some attempts that you'd think would shut it down. To remove Windows
Messenger, just copy/paste in what it says below in the quote. This should
work - I did it with another quote from a different post quite a while ago,
that was the same or similar, and I found this one still saved on my hard
drive. You might lose some Messenger function called "whiteboard". I never
knew what that was.

Also, consider using Yahoo Messenger too (can use both MSN & Yahoo at the same
time). I use Yahoo more than MSN, and am now default using Yahoo Messenger.
it just depends on what your contacts use. And you can also use AOL messenger
too. I've always had some voice problems with MSN Messenger too. Never did
solve that one. I wonder if SP2 fixed this?

------- ------- begin quote:

Windows Messenger can be uninstalled.
Close down Messenger (right click the messenger icon in the notification
area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then
click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

----- ------ end quote

...D.
