Windows Messenger- How do I re-enable it?

I have been using MSN Messenger and I disabled Windows Messenger, but cant
remember how !! I now want to go back to Windows Messenger and have
uninstalled MSN ...... And will this work for me if I am not using Outlook? I
am currently using Mozilla Thunderbird email programme.
Thanks for any help.

Go to Control panel
click Add / remove programs
click Add Remove Windows Components
Scroll down and click Windows Messenger
