I'm using MSN Messenger 6.1
Since a few days the icons for the contacts are all green, even those of the
off line ones.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall Messenger, no success.
Solutions ?

Problem seems to be Windows Update of NVIDIA driver.

Just restore to checkpoint before update.

Problem goes away.

Hi Bob,

Do you happen to know which driver version WindowsUpdate gives you that causes this problem?

Hi Jonathan,

It seems to be the NVIDIA display software update released on October 06
2003
More users seem to have the same problem : check out the thread on this
forum on november 11th about "corrupted Messenger Icons"

Hi Jonathan

I have an NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 MODEL 64 on a DELL
XPS T700r on Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 1.
MSN Messenger 6.1 (6.1.0155) and Windows Messenger
5.0 (5.0.0381)

Last driver version that WORKS is 4.5.2.3

Dont know version that causes problem but it is the
October 6 driver update on Windows Update.

If you examine supported hardware on update there is
a great long list of cards including RIVA TNT2 MODEL 64.

Hi

I have the same problem - after an upgrade, I think. I
have put two questions on this on the MSN support page -
no reply.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No go. Stuck
and frustrated!

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers

Hi

I have had the same problem, and searched this forum for
an answer. I read, to do with another MSN problem, that
there might be a problem with the latest nVidia driver.
I had put the new one on a few weeks ago, so I rolled
back to the previous driver, and, behold, red icons came
back!

Give it a try!

Cheers

The NVIDIA new drivers were the problem. I had the same fault. I rolled
back to the old one and it fixed the problem. However the powers to be have
fixed the problem with the new drivers and I was able to install the new
driver two days ago without affecting the icon colour on Messenger.
