Media player survey?

Would be interested in hearing everyones' opinion of the best Media
Player to use with XP Home[excluding - Windows Media Player], and by
"best" I mean, easiest to use, with the least conflict problems.

Has anyone here, used the upgraded WinAmp program? If so, how does it
perform?

Music Match was my preferred player on my old machine, but when I was
forced to upgrade on this system, it has become as bloated as WMP and
RP. For someone who wants to primarily listen to radio, store their CDs
easily in a music library, and buy/download tracks occasionally, which
do you reccomend?

RealPlayer 10.5 will play nearly every codec on the market.

Since I have to use an Audigy 2zs sound card, for music that I keep on my
HDD, I use the player that comes with the card - it has a few tweaking
features not available in other players. Then I use other players for
different content - Real for .ra, WinAmp for radio, QuickTime for .qt etc.
Of course, all these guys must be tamed not to open on start up, not to
check for updates every 5 seconds etc.
All in all, WinAmp would be my favorite with DivX second.

You've got several good suggestions here and it all depends on the
user/listener.
Each has there own idiosyncrasies. MusicMatch is good but like you said
bloated.
WinAmp is for the birds and should be completely deleted. WMP is good for it
has most of the needed codecs. RealPlayer will bug you to death with ads to
buy the "plus" version, which MusicMatch does also. But, I found a real neat
free player that in my opinion is excellent. Try it, you can always delete
it:
Quintessential Player

All RealPlayer "marketing" can be disabled in version 10.x

I agree, Quintessential Player is excellent.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I'll try Quintessential,
and WinAmp[based on Michael's comment] first, then if they don't work,
migrate back to RP or MM. Really appreciate your comments. :)

But when I looked at the Download page for Quintessential it showed as a
negative Spyware, Nags etc.

Am I not correct there?

I can't say, because I haven't tried that one yet. :) I downloaded the
RP alternative, called Media Player Classic, & use MM otherwise, for now.
Maybe Galley or Byte will tell us both.
