Media Player 11 Crashes on launch

For some reason, my Media Player just crashes now if I merely launch it.
Playing any sort of file is out of the question. All I have to do is click
the shortcut, it pops up, opening to the library section...then immediately
crashes. The error info is below:

If you installed any third party codecs, especially whole packages,
that can cause problems. One quick fix that sometimes helps is start
up Microsoft's Movie Maker. Under Tools, Options, click the Restore
defaults button. This should reset Movie Maker, Media Player and Photo
Gallery all at once telling them not to use any third party stuff. It
shouldn't effect how any third party applications themselves work.

Did you try installing the wmp11 reliability update?

Search for "Update for Windows Vista (KB941651)" on Microsoft's download
center.

Yes, it said I already had.

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point when it never happened?
Also try running System file checker:

Start menu>right click cmd and click "run as Admin" and

Given that you aren't getting far ATM have you tried uninstalling the
updates starting with the WMP specific ones?

Bleh, I'm just going to rebuild it. Ever since I've put the new Nero that is
supposedly "Vista Compatible" on my machine, it's been acting wonky. I can't
even uninstall it correctly. This had nothing to do with the Media Player,
though, as Nero's been lingering around my machine since I built it months
ago. Wipe it! The panacea for Vista's headaches! Heh.

Good as new again. Now that I think about it, I think this started happening
after installing the newest Roxio, which also supposed to be Vista
Compatible. I had no problems with the application itself but who knows if
that was the cause of this. I'll be sure to set a restore point before
installing it this time. Thanks for all the input.

Just to let you know, Roxio 9 is fine and wasn't the culprit. I just
installed and all is dandy. Guess it was just another Vista burp.

I'll take a look at this tomorrow if I get a chance.

Offhand, that should be a crash trying to access protected files.

Resetting the DRM store--

would probably fix you up, but that's rather overkill and you would have to
reacquire any licenses.

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Same problem with WMP 11 & Vista, wouldn't care but I need it to watch
netflix. Differet Buckett ID:554691181

Been all over google, I see a lot of people with the same problem but 0
fixes. Also when I got to the DRM update the download button is greyed out.

Also thougth I had Restore on but didn't. Reinstalling windows will loose
all the networking we had to pay a tech to do for our office network to work
with Vista. Boss doen't mind if I watcn while doing data entry but will not
want to pay again.

One common fix that I see but doen't work for me is to reset the DRM.

I might have fixed it after 40 hours of trying. I have an HP Pavilion, so I
went to HP"S website and downloaded to latest BIOS winflash. (which I already
had) HP let me override the version I had now I seems to be working. I hope
this helps.
