mcafee update on w98se?

I have 2 partitoins on my laptop.

w98se and w2k, mcafee proffesional 7.02 on both.

since the sdat update file now contains the new engine too, it refuses
to update on w98se, saying no updatable produkt found. It works all
fine on w2k however.

Can someone tell me what file does the validating on w2k and if this
then could be copied to w98se so the validating and thus updating from
sdat file would work here as well?


I treid to copy all possible obvious inclusive all parts of the new
engine 5 to the w98se. All works, but the update via sdat still not.


any mcafee experts around?

McAfee no longer supports Win9x/ME. The last product that supported it was v4.5.1 SP1 and
the latest SuperDAT no longeer recognizes it rither. Even if you manually extracted the
files into the Engine folder, yoor PC will be a real dog as the files are no longer desgined
to work under the Win9x/ME model.

I suggest removing McAfee fromj Win98 and replacing it with AntiVir.

I can find all eicar and also all of my colection of sample virus with
it. The only task would be to cheat the updater somehow, this would
make it lot easier.

Download the SuperDAT and execute it with the the switch; /e <folder>

Where <folder> is the location of the Engine files. Note, you will have to diable McAfee to
perform the update otherwise the file will be held open that you are trying to update.

the guys at mcafee did simply disablke the w98 in their script. Can
all be started again with changed script?

the w98 is simply commented out, even allso older engines would be
accepted according to the script.
