Mcafee Ativirus Removal

Hi,

I am running a Windows 2000 server. I recently downloaded a trial version of
Mcafee Virus Scan Enterprise Edition to run on my server. The expiry ran out
so I then purchased this from their online store. I uninstalled the trial
and then run setup with my new software. The Enterprise Edition that I
purchased can also be run on Windows 2000 Pro, There is Virus Scan version 4
for desktops and Enterprise 7 for Servers included in the download.

My problem began when I accidently run the setup for version 4 on my server,
I quickly uninstalled it and then run version 7. My problem is, when I run
the update client to update my virus definaitions it errors out saying that
I cannot update version 4 on the version of windows that im using, this is
obviously because im running Windows 2000 Server. Ive unisnstalled it
serveral times and still get the same message. Ive Google'd this with no
joy. I can't afford to rebuild the server as time is not an option. Does
someone know how I can completely remove Mcafee without a trace so that I
can reinstall Version 7 to be a happy man.

Any suggestions are most welcome

I've always avoided trial versions of software because of the potential
problems with uninstallation. I try to install everything using an
uninstall utility, but some deeply-installed programs (such as some
antiviruses) can fight with installation-tracking routines.

Unfortunately, my experience in the software world, too, has been that
many programmers and product managers don't care about responsible
coding; they're satisfied as long as the program does what it's supposed
to do without crashing. Clean uninstall? "Hey, what the hell do you want
from me, for crying out loud: get a life, will you?"

There are two things that are must-haves for me when I fork over money
for any internet security program:
- Good, free telephone support
- Responsible coding
- A consistent, thoughtful, human-engineered interface

I can get all the non-phone support I can eat with freeware. Any company
who thinks that they can get by with exclusive internet support can go
FAQ themselves.

What do you think?

NAI used to have a full set of instructions on removal of their desktop
install in their KB. There was quite a bit to the procedure, but it
worked. I would think they also have the same sort of instructions for
the Enterprise version. The document included all of the files that
don't get removed and all of the registry entries. I would think, if
you had the instructions for both products, you should be able to remove
all of Mcafee that you have installed.

Then demand your money back.....
