Maybe OT Winxp with router

A friend has a desktop and a laptop, both Winxp home . Linksys router
wireless , laptop wireless, desktop ethernet cable to Router to Cable modem.
Both PC's can access the internet. Router is pushing out the DHCP
assignments for both. He wants to access and work on the files on the
desktop pc while he is , let's say on his porch(100 ft) . I am a bit unsure
what the best method is to accomplish this. He doesn't care about the
desktop going to the laptop. ICS is NOT installed.
Would this still be using remote desktop? Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks
Frank

The Linksys router will handle changing of the media type ( Wireless to
Ethernet ). This should be treated as a single LAN segment, in which case
Remote Desktop should work fine ( providing no firewall is blocking TCP port
3389 )

Remote Desktop is not available on XP Home.

If he only needs to work on files, just share them.

OK, just share them. They have the same network & subnet mask (DHCP from
router) so is it that simple, share the my docs folder on the desktop and
Map a drive?
Thanks
