Linksys router and internet problem

J

Jim F.

I have set up a network in my home office. Using a
Linksys Wireless G router I have run my internet through
the cable modem then to the router then to the computer.
I no longer have internet access from my desktop
(hardwired to the cable modem via a router). My laptop,
a wireless connection, has perfect access to the
internet. The desktop had internet access prior to
installing the router, but even direct connection to the
cable modem does not result in connectionn to the
internet anymore. This has gone on for over two days.
Can anyone help?

Are your TCP/IP setting for the desktop set to obtain an IP Address
automatically? By default, your router will have DHCP turned on, so it
will issue IP addresses to computers connected to it.

Do check your TCP/IP property on your desktop to set it to obtain IP address
automatcically. If so, try the following things, one at a time then test if
you have got the connection:

1: on your desktop, goto DOS prompt and type "ipconfig release" then
"ipconfig renew"
2: Check your network cable and try connect it to another port on the
router.
3: Reset the router and /or upgrade it's firmware.
4: Post the result of "ipconfig /all" here again if you still have problem.
