MAPI and IMAP or POP3 Invitations

Matthew Dougherty

How can I configure Outlook and Exchange to allow
actionalble (accept, decline, etc) to both MAPI users with
server containing calendar as well as remote users who use
either POP3 or IMAP?

Presently one or another gets a text only invitation.

If I switch IMAP to "send as iCAl", IMAP to IMAP works,
IMAP to MAPI works if the calendar is housed on the
server, IMAP to MAPI is text if calendar is housed locally
but the critical problem is IMAP to POP3 is raw iCal
header which is difficult to read.

If you know the recipients are using Outlook, you should enable each
recipient's email address for rich-text formatting by double-clicking the
address and checking the "Send in rich-text format" box.

If they may include non-Outlook recipients, then you may need to forward the
appointment as vCal.

Are you saying to me that if someone using outlook
connecting via POP3 sends a calendar invitation to another
Outlook POP3 uses, it will be received as an actionalble
invitation if both are using RTF?

My tests don't support that statement.

Please verify.

I have the default config to send as RTF. When I get the
email address properties, it has a check box to send in
text mode. This is unchecked.

I'll keep playing with it.

Thanks.

Matt.

One useful diagnostic is to send to an account that you can access with
Outlook Express, which will allow you to see the full raw message. It should
have a Winmail.dat attachment, which will be the RTF content.
