manual serial switch

I have installed a manual serial switch between 2 PC's so
that they can share an external modem. It works from one
PC (the first PC the modem was set up from), but not from
the other

can anyone help??

Windows XP needs to find the modem during boot-up so that XP will give it
resources. If the modem is not found, XP will remove it. This is normal.
Refresh Device Manager after switching the modem should give the modem back
to XP.
