Making old DOS programs work again

Is there any place that tells how to get old DOS programs to work again?
I tried the KB mentioned in one of the links in Kelleys-Korner but it
didn't help. I have several programs that I still use from time to time
that worked fine with XP Pro until SP2 or one of the "fixes" in that era
prevented them from working. They will start loading and then just
freeze requiring them to be closed. Other DOS programs continue to work
without any problems.
I would use Windows versions of the programs if they were available, but
I haven't been able to find a Windows compatible version of the program
Demo II or others that I like to use.

Have you looked into Microsoft's Virtual PC? I have it and as long as you
aren't doing anything too strange, you can run almost ANY operating system as
if it was installed on real hardware.
