Making modem dial 1 for out of area calls

I am using Microsoft Fax Console v5.1 on XP Pro. I have set rules in my
modem config for 10 digit dialing. When I send to 303 or 720 my modem does
not dial a 1 and will send all 10 digits. This is great. Is there a way to
make it dial 1 automatically for numbers outside my area code? Meaning
without me having to put a 1 in the number.

Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options

assuming you've properly configured Area Code Rules for 303 and 720, on the
General tab of the Location you are making long-distance calls from, type
'1,' (don't type ' ') in the field named, 'To access an outside line for
long-distance calls, dial' (Edit button, General tab, Dialing rules section)

alternately, i think that you can also prepend a '+1' to ALL of your phone
numbers in the address book, and the 1 will (only) be added automatically to
a number whose area code is different from the one that is currently set on
the Dialing Rules tab of the Phone and Modem Options applet (in the Control
Panel).

been a while since i've used the modem, however... so ymmv

I'll give this a try. My wife is on the phone right now so I will test it
later. Will it dial 1 for outside line first or the *70 to disable the call
waiting?
