Mail sitting in outbox

G

Guest

I have not been able to send mail for a couple days using outlook 2002:
however, I am able to receive mail. I can also receive and send on outlook
express and through my ISP's webmail. The only thing that has happen lately
was that I tried sending a huge zip file. It just kept sitting in the outbox
so i deleted it. After that I wasn't able to send mail.

I have been getting different error messages like :
Sending' reported error (0x80040109) : 'Unknown Error 0x80040109'

'Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210B):
The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP)
server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Any ideas to help resolve issue?

Thanks

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for your help!! I am able to send mail now. My problem was not
resolved with downloading the SP but worked after I added the line in the
registry.

I'm sorry, but that link doesn't seem to be good anymore. Please help me! I'm
having what appears to be the same problem. I was trying to send a large zip
file yesterday and just like this person, my problems thus began. I can send
small attachments, but nothing of any size. I turned off my Norton, that
didn't help. I have already installed Office XP SP 3 which was supposed to
fix it but that didn't help. I get the following errors:

Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0B) : 'Unknown Error
0x800CCC0B' and
Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for
a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this
message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).

Thanks for your help.

A few more details to add as I've been reading these posts and trying things
for hours. Yes, I've installed Office XP SP3, I tried adding USEInetcommCS
and setting the value to 1 as one place suggests, I've completely uninstalled
Norton Antivirus, added Outlook.exe to my exceptions in Windows Firewall,
turned off Windows firewall, clicked every conceiveable combination of SSL
etc. in options in Outlook - I've gone into Add/Remove Programs and have
clicked repair on Office XP.

Meanwhile, I've compared the settings in Outlook to my other machine which
can send an even larger file without problem. I've reset everything on this
machine back to what the other machine has. I'm still working without Norton
which is dangerous. But I still get errors in trying to send a large
attachement: 0x8004210B, 0x800ccc0b, 0x800ccc0f
Like right now, I have some errors, but it's still trying to send and it
says 8 of 28 Tasks completed successfully.

I can't blame this on Norton since I did a complete uninstall. Outlook has
to be the culprit.

Just thought I'd add more info...

Thanks!

I also have a problem where outgoing mail gets stuck in the Outbox. I haven
't had the problem of not being able to delete messages. Sometimes I am
able to overcome that by dragging the message back to the Inbox, pressing
"Send," and the "Send/Receive." However, you suggestion Milly of switching
to "Work Offline," closing Outlook, and then restarting Outlook seems to be
more reliable. You have to switch off "Work Offline" before sending. I
think one time in my case this procedure also without first switching to
"Work Offline."

One would think that there would be a more elegant solution, but at least
you don't have to reboot.

Actually what happens in my case is, the message usually with attachement
about 400kb+ got stuck in Outbox. It's suppose to transfer to Sent Folder
after sending. Not only that, what is annoying to receiver is they received
the message multiple times. We know that if the message is in the Outbox, the
message send is unsuccessful. This very embarrasing particular in one of my
client.

This is usually a symptom of 1) a send/receive interval that is too short,
2) a server timeout value that is too small, and/or 3) scanning outbound
mail with an antivirus program.

Brian,

Thanks for the suggestions. I de-checked all the boxes in the add-in
manager, including one that says something like LPDV - I can't remember
exactly - but dechecking these (which might be anti-virus add-ins) didn't
solve the problem.

I can't figure out how to change the send/receive interval or the server
timeout interval.

With the Inbox showing, press ALT-CTRL-S to get the Send/Receive Groups
dialogue box where you can modify the send/receive interval. Moake sure it
is no less than 10 minutes.

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Select your account and click Change.
Click More Settings, then the Advanced tab. Adjust the server timeout value
there.

Similar problem. Using XP and Outlook in Office 2003. All aspects work
with no problem except when trying to send (forward) a large (4-6 MB)
attachment. It sits in the outbox for hours (sometimes days) before finally
leaving. In the process, multiple error msgs are received stating 'timed out
waiting response from server'. Help.

I had this problem a few days ago. Someone else on this board said he was
able to drag the offending file to archives and delete it there. I tried
it and it worked for me..

|| ||| I have not been able to send mail for a couple days using outlook
||| 2002: however, I am able to receive mail. I can also receive and
||| send on outlook express and through my ISP's webmail. The only
||| thing that has happen lately was that I tried sending a huge zip
||| file. It just kept sitting in the outbox so i deleted it. After
||| that I wasn't able to send mail.
|||
||| I have been getting different error messages like :
||| Sending' reported error (0x80040109) : 'Unknown Error '
|||
||| 'Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210B):
||| The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending
||| (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact
||| your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
|||
||| Any ideas to help resolve issue?
|||
||| Thanks
Similar problem. Using XP and Outlook in Office 2003. All aspects work
with no problem except when trying to send (forward) a large (4-6 MB)
attachment. It sits in the outbox for hours (sometimes days) before
finally
leaving. In the process, multiple error msgs are received stating 'timed
out
waiting response from server'. Help.
