Lost wireless connection with WPC54G

Running W2K SP4 on laptop with Linksys WPC54G wireless
network adapter. Router is a Linksys WRT54G, my two
desktops work fine sharing my cable connnection through
the router. My laptop worked fine for 4 days and then
lost the connection. After trying everything with the
Linkys help desk, their last 2 suggetsions were: 1) to
reinstall w2k and/or 2) get another laptop. Yes both of
these suggestions are crazy. At their suggestion I took
back the network card and exchanged it for a new one, but
I still have the same problem. When the network card is
in the slot, a LAN icon appears on the systray but when I
open it the status says:"Network cable unplugged". Before
experiencing this problem the Linksys icon would just
activate and I was able to connect. It seems as if
windows is trying to take over the network adapter.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Not crazy at all. In order to check what is wrong with a piece of hardware you want to
check it in another (good) system and v.v.

Good news. the card probably is ok, the driver is running.

Ok now the ball is on Linksys side. Ask them why the #$^& icon is not visible or not doing it's work.
Hopefully now they won't tell you to replace laptop or things.
