Lost files after XP repair installation

XP needed to be repaired on my HP DV1010us notebook. I repaired it
everything seemed to be fine until i actually got into windows and
found none of my things there. My documents music and picture files
all gone. The files and folders for the guest account are all there
and accounted for but the files and folders for my account which had a
password on it, totally gone! How do I get them back? Where did they
go? There is 27gigs of space being used on my hardrive considering all
thats on there is program files(which don't work, having to reinstall
those fun times) and windows as far as i can see and about maybe a gig
of music from the guest account so whats using all the space. So it
would be greatly greatly appreciated if someone could tell me where or
how to get my files back. I will continue my search but would love a
shove in the right direction or the solution would be outstanding.

thanks

What were the exact steps you took to perform the repair? Sounds more like
you did a fresh install.

Well it(notebook) was sent in for a motheroard repair, but came back
sans quickplay. I press the dvd button horrible things happen, I
cannot get winxp to boot. Finally bite the bullet and intended on a
fresh install. The xp disc that came oem with the laptop we used it,
we basically went through the motions of a fresh install then it gave
an option to repair a windows installation, we chose that one. I
myself wasnt in the room past this point so i can't telly you all the
things that were selected or prompted. But I am for sure he chose to
repair the windows installation. Now my assumption is by fresh install
you mean formating c drive partitioning and all that jazz, that he
didnt do if thats what is meant(is this spelled correctly it looks
wrong)
