lost file

I clicked on to a message that said "Windows Mail can compact your messages
store .This may take up to a few minutes" & lost important File
I cannot find where it is or how to contact Windows Mail. This message still
continues to come up all the time

You need to let it compact then and when it finishes it should not come up
again unless you interrupt it.

What file? Was it a message? Try going to View | Current View | Show all
messages in the folder it was in.

If no improvement, upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

I upgraded to Windows Mail as you suggest & also WMUtil
I also have been trying by creating a new system recovery- this used to work
for me very well in the past but on a different computer.This one does not do
so well with this approach

It was an emails sent from June within a file titled "June"

Did you try Windows Live Mail?

You can try searching *.eml and where the file includes "June" and see if
you get anything.
