Use the Search tool in the Start menu. That'll scan "through the hard drive
and find .....the favorites list".
There is no duplicate of the bunch of codes representing the Favorites menu
in the same volume (partition, 'drive', or HD -- if of single partition).
The OS has more than one way of presenting the list to the user, however.
If the folder content is important, you should save it on a floppy. Insert
a diskette; open IE > File (top Lt.) > Import and Export > follow the
prompts in the Wizard.

Rt. click Favorites folder in the Folder Tree as you did > Properties >
General tab > Attributes > be sure that the content of the folder is not
hidden.

I am not sure I understand your 1st question of "archived copy". The
Favorites files are in the Favorites Folder under Document and Settings, as
you have found out. Do you mean you want to know if there is another
location of these Favorites?
My favorites have disappeared from Internet Explorer. A search of the
Favorites files under Documents and Settings matches the now-empty list in
Explorer. Is there anywhere I could find an archived copy of my Favorites?
What made them disappear?
