How do I change my IE Favorites path?

Craig

Hi gang,

I have no idea how I did this but my Internet Explorer's (WinXP Home with
all updates) path for my IE Favorites has gone to my backup drive. So while
I expect and desire IE to look here for my Favorites:

C:\Documents and Settings\...\Favorites

instead my IE looks here:

F:\Favorites

I tried deleting the F:\Favorites folder but Windows won't let me do it as
it's a system folder! My F drive is just an old slow hard drive which I use
only to archive old copies of data and I really want to see my PC system
think that the path to my IE Favorites is on the C drive where it belongs.
IE is my default browser, by the way.

I've looked through my Internet Options and see no place where the
Favorites path is specified or could be changed. I assume this issue is
buried somewhere in my registry, but am not sure how to find or change the
value.

Can someone direct me to a fix? I'm willing to go the regedit route if
that's the only way but will need details on exactly what to change and how
to save the revisions. Thanks.

Lastly, are there any software programs out there (anti-spyware, etc.)
that could have been responsible for moving my favorites to the F drive (or
prevent me changing the path to favorites to a different setting)?

TweakUI for XP will do it. Start TweakUI and go to My Computer > Special
Folders and scroll down the list to Favorites.

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

For Windows 2000/XP:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders]
Set the Favorites path to : %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

The above should be a REG_EXPAND_SZ value, not REG_SZ

Thanks so much. I've got Tweak but hadn't thought to look there. I should
have. But then, I'd have looked only in the IE section and never would ever
have thought to look in Special Folders section of My Computer! So double
thanks are in order.

Thanks. I had found one of the two settings but missed the other. Even
better, it was pointed out that Tweak UI will do it, too, and without
editing the registry.
