Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

G

Guy

One day when I signed on to MSN, I found that all my
favorites had vanished. When i started replacing them and tried to organize,
make folders etc, the screen would lock up and say "LOADING". Now when i
sign on, the home page is blank with the message "LOADING". I have tried
everything I know to correct it. I tried Tech Services with no success.

thanks

The OP could log in to http://favorites.live.com using INTERNET EXPLORER and
see if there is anything there to salvage. If there is, he could make a
backup to a local disk file.

Windows Live Favorites was discontinued on April 14, 2009 and replaced by Windows Live SkyDrive. All existing favorites saved on

Not sure if this will work or not...which is why I didn't mention it earlier..because the Favorites.xml file has to be present and
contain data in MSn Premium.

Assuming the file is present and something else is wrong with accessing the file via Msn Premium, this might offer some help.

Then I suggest that you contact MSN Support:
http://support.msn.com - sign in with your subscribed account LiveID (MSN email)
and you will see your support options.
It may be a server side account issue.

Using MSN 7.02 you are not likely to get any support. My reply was meant for
"Guy" who I assume is a subscriber to MSN and using the latest version (9.6) of
the MSN Explorer software.
If your are using the free 7.02 version, you are really on your own,
unfortunately.

If the Favorites folder has the "system" attribute set it
won't appear in the Organize Favorites window.

Copy the string below (no word-wrap! only one line!) and
paste it into the Run box:

%WinDir%\system32\attrib.exe -S -H %UserProfile%\Favorites /S /D

Try again...
MSn Favorites are not stored in that location. All that will do is modify the attributes for IE's Favorites.

In XP...as an example
\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application Data\MSN6\UserData\{UID}
or
\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application Data\MSNx\UserData\{UID}, where x is unique to your configuration/version

What version of MSN Software ?
- 9.6 is the current

Do you have a backup copy of your Favorites.xml file ?

Are they present in Internet Explorer ?

Are they present on your SkyDrive ?

Not sure if this will work or not...MSn software stores favorites in a file named Favorites.xml.

For the following to function the Favorites.xml file has to be present and contain data(ie. not blank, overwritten etc)

Assuming the file is present and something else is wrong with accessing the file via Msn Premium, this Tool might offer some help.

Compliments and credit to Patrick Phillippot and MainSoft
http://www.mainsoft.fr/en/downloads.htm

MSN Favorites Export Toolkit
http://www.mainsoft.fr/Files/MsnFav.zip

Other background info(which may or may not be related but should be understood)

-Windows Live Favorites permitted users to import their favorites form IE or MSN Explorer
- That ability ceased when Windows Live Favorites(WLF) was discontinued on April 14, 2009 and replaced with Windows Live SkyDrive.
As long as the Favorites were present in WLF they may be available on one's SkyDrive(all Live ID's have a SkyDrive)
http://skydrive.live.com

Note: The above said 'may be available''
- A few folks, reportedly having a distaste for the online storage of information(SkyDrive/Favorites), inadvertently deleted the
Favorites residing on their SkyDrive, not realizing that Windows Live Favorites was discontinued in April and learned that the only
source available might be that Favorites.xml file in MSn Premium(if present and not corrupt)

Thus the MainSoft Toolkit provided above may be the only method to recover those MSN Favorites(since one can no longer export to
the now defunct WLF and move them to their SkyDrive).

Good Luck!!!
