Nightmare with XP service pack 2

D

Donna

I installed the service pack 2 last night. This morning when I went
to organize favorites nothing happened, just says "loading". Went to
internet options, temporary files, clicked on that and nothing
happened. My email is missing the option of inserting
pictures/graphics.

I've been on the phone with MSN tech support 3 times already this
morning. Tried a work around, that didn't work. They told me to
cancel my account (control/shift F11 key) and reenter information. I
did that and that hasn't worked either!!

Last guy I talked to said if that didn't work to remove MSN 9 and
reinstall. If I remove the SP2 do you think that will solve this??

Thanks for any help.

you can call Microsoft support, we have a SP2 help line for any issues with
SP2 (I am customer service for MS) and you can call that number for free
support (only with SP2 issues though), the number is 1-888-SP2-HELP or
1-888-772-4357.

They will work with you until they have resolved your issue :)

hopefully you archived your past sp1 during sp2 install
so uninstall it and see if it works . then before
reinstalling scan for spyware spybot
safer-networking.org. scan for virus. defrag. update any
known drivers from your computer manufacturer. and ditch
msn and use firefox from mozilla.org .

Do you have System Restore turned on? If so, you could select a restore
point prior to installation and "go back in time." That will not affect any
of your data but should remove any programs you installed after that time.
Of course, you will still need to reinstall SP2 later, and this will not
tell you what went wrong with the first installation. Still, I have done
this several times to eliminate problematic installations of programs.

I installed sp2 for the first time about 2 weeks ago. It created
problems accessing the internet. When I uninstalled it, things
returned to normal. I went through this process 3 more times in the
interim. Each time, the only thing that restored normal operation was
to uninstall sp2. I found the problem--at least for my PC. I have had
Norton Internet Security 2004 on my machine since 11/2003. I never had
any problems with NIS until I loaded sp2. The 2 programs just will not
co-exist on my machine. For now, I have chosen to disable NIS to see
if the Windows + sp2 will protect my computer. If it does, I will
probably stick with it. On the other hand, I will represent one LESS
customer for NIS. Is Microsoft attempting to destroy Symantec/NIS, or
are the problems created by sp2 merely bad programming caused by
rushing product to market too soon?

MSN referred me to the SP2 help line also. I removed SP2 and
everything is back to normal. The technician told me they are having
a lot of issues with it and working on resolving this. I'm not going
to install it until they get "bugs" worked out.

Thanks for all the help!

You'll wait a long time then. There most likely will be no changes to
SP2. Your system was not prepared properly is the more likely problem,
see my other post on how to.

The problem is with Symantec software. It is not what it used to be and
is getting worse. There are many who used to swear by it that won't let
any of their stuff near their system. It is bloated, slow and buggy.
There are other good alternatives to NIS. And problems with SP2 is not
the only thing Symantec ware causes.

"until they get "bugs" worked out"?
And how will you know what that is?
Of course you were referred to an official Microsoft website that said
the same thing?
If not you were probably talking to an incompetent tech.

While waiting YOU need to research for potential hardware and software
issues your computer may have with SP-2 so you can resolve them.
The SP-2 available today is identical to the SP-2 available in a year
so if all you do is wait, you are wasting your time.

Each PC is unique! The "bugs" may not be from Microsoft but other
softwares.
