Looking for scan/copy software for low-end Canon scanner

I have a Canon Lide-30 scanner and have misplaced the CDs that came
with it. I don't like the scan/copy software that came with it much,
anyway.

Is there a generic/open source application that can talk to most USB
scanners ?

I know I can fire up any TWAIN-compliant software and scan, but I don't
have it on all machines and it's overkill.

Is a TWAIN driver specific to the scanner? Do I have to find a
Canon CD, anyway?

(on a similar note, software called "CD Burner XP" has replaced all
the bundled burner software I every had. It's a better app, IMO, and
the price is right.)

7.0.3.0 driver is available on a couple sites.

And the Canon site still has software. Set OS to "WinXP" to see 7.0.3.1a
