Canon LiDE 30 USB scanner: not seen by Scanner & camera wizard ?

Hoping someone can help me with this "old" piece of hardware:

I just installed a CANON LiDE 30 flatbed USB scanner on my WinXP SP3, and
installed only the latest Canon scanner drivers (and the ScanGear CS app that
goes with it), not the full app suite that shipped with the unit.
The device is properly recognized, it shows up & tests fine in CP/Scanners &
Cameras; it works fine with MS Office 2003 Document Scanning and other Photo
and Imaging apps.

BUT, it is NOT recognized by the Windows Scanner & Camera Wizard; also the
list of app to start with scanner events (CP/Scanners & Cameras/Properties)
is empty.

Is there a way to have this handy little scanner recognized by S&CW ?

When I was using my Umax scanner, with the Umax official drivers, it
too was not usable from the Scanner & Camera wizard, even though it
still was scanning.

Only if Cannon provides the necessary files and data. I have an HP scanner
and an Oly camera that started out not being recognized. Later driver
versions solved the problem.
Personally, I use Viewscan instead of the windows scan & C wizard.
