Hello, All!
A bizarre thing! My sister has just bought a second hand laptop and asked me
to install Windows XP etc. I have done this a zillion times on many machines
over the years but this one did something I'd never seen before.
Starting with a fresh install of XP pro, updating all drivers, installing
some other software (PowerDVD, Photoshop) there is now a wierd delay when
the desktop appears. It didn't happen straight away, but just suddenly
started.
After the welcome screen, the desktop appears inclusing the taskbar. Only 3
icons appear in the system tray (instead of the 7 I expected) and that's it.
About 1 minute later, the rest appear and the Windows start music starts.
During this time, there is no hard-drive activity nor is there any hourglass
cursor on the screen. If I check task manager, all programs have started. If
I check the Services, Windows Audio has not started. I began with checking
drivers and un-installing software in the hope I could determine the
problem. But to no avail.
Any ideas?
With best regards, Lindsay. E-mail: (e-mail address removed)
