log on screen user name

hello,
how to get rid of old user name from log on screen?
the user account has been deleted and you can find it in control panel/user
accounts; the computer name has been changed; on a welcome screen you do not
see this account neither but when you log on in to win xp without welcome
screen the old name appears like a default - of course I can delete it and
log in with my name and password but it is anoying;
any suggestions? thank you

If the user name still appears in Control Panel > User Accounts it has
not been deleted.
