I've lost a user that I created from Control Panel

I went to User Accounts and added a user as limited; gave her a new picture
& password. I did use the Welcome Screen to log on to the new account a few
times. But now it is gone from there and does not appear in the User
Accounts screen.

However, when I try to re-add the user name in User Accounts, I'm told the
user already exists.

How do I make it reappear on the Welcome screen?

Gary,

First of all you can try to see if the user is in the SpecialAccounts, list
for some reason, you can do this by:

Start, Run and then "regedit.exe"

Once the registry editor has started, browse to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \
Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList \

If the user is in there just change it's DWORD value to 1 and it will
re-appear on the XP Welcome screen.

Try this and post back if this does not resolve the issue,

The user, Diana (in question) is not in that registry User List.

administrator is the only user I utilize at this time in there. Nor is she a
member of a group represented in that key.

Are you running XP Home or Pro? If Pro, click Start, Run and Enter LUSRMGR.MSC Open the Users folder and make sure that the account is present there and not "disabled".

I am running XP Pro and I tried that; the user is not disabled.
