Welcome Screen, Log On-Log Off Loop

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition(Build 2600). Computer
starts as expected and "Welcome" screen shows available
user accounts. Select account to log on and get "Loading
your personal settings..." followed immediately
by "Saving your personal settings..." followed
by "Welcome" screen.

Available accounts; Default and Guest

In Safe Mode, open User Accounts panel and Guest account
has disappeared. I have created new user and had the same
Log On-Log Off Loop problem.

HELP!

Thanx

I'm having the same problem.
It seems on my machine (nine users) that one user will
still logon while the others loop. Once that user logs
off all the users can logon normally.

Some times the user that is logged on does not show up in
the Windows Task Manager: User tab. Like there are no
users but we're still logged on. ???

What's going on?
