Lock Computer/User Switching

Hi to all...i realized the other day that when I lock the
computer (Window Key + L), I am transported to the
windows user select screen (the blue one, where you
choose different users). I used to get a box in the
middle of the screen saying "this computer is locked",
and then asked me for a password. I tried disabling the
fast user switching, but that didn't restore the setting
I used to have. When I disable the fast user switching,
the login sound no longer plays, and I have a different
logout screen (from the start menu), which no longer
says 'switch user' I am the administrator to the
computer, and am the only user as well...any suggestions?

Hi,

Winkey+L should Lock the workstation, with Fast User Switching disabled. If not, check the registry value here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Set AllowMultipleTSSessions to 0 if you want the Lock the Workstation by pressing Winkey+L

[Another option is to disable Welcome Screen altogether. This should help anyway]

Related utility - LockXP: See Tip 301:
Lock XP with Fast User Switching Enabled
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

NOTE: If you have Fast User Switching enabled, you cannot lock the computer. When you press Winkey+L, it goes to Welcome Screen instead of Locking the Workstation. The above utility can Lock the Workstation even with Fast User Switching Enabled using the 'obvious' method.
