Loading Service Pack 4

T

Tom Wiegers

I have been attempting to install Service Pack 4 onto my
machine and when I go through the Windows Update window
and choose and then accept the terms the following happens:

1. I get a window that says that the Pack is Loading and
a blue bar proceeds across the screen.
2. Then the lower bar, which is called Installing, begins
to proceed across the screen. About five or ten seconds
into this process, I get another Window which is a wizard,
and it tells me that it is connecting to a Microsoft site
to complete the install.
3. Based on my connection, this takes a half hour or so,
but the Installing and loading bars are completely blue.
But the wizard never closes on its own.
4. When I close it manually, I get a message that tells
me that i have not allowed the installation to complete.
I have left this wizards window open as well as my
telephone line connection for over twenty-four hours and I
still get the same result.
5. When I go back into Windows Update, it tells me that i
have Service Pack 4 to install.

Please help me understand what I might be doing wrong.
I'd appreciate any assistance.

Sincerely,
Confused (a.k.a. Tom Wiegers)
