Linksys Laptop Wireless Adapter Compatibility Question

Tom

I just purchased a Linksys Wireless Adapter for my laptop. The box
says it’s a model WPC11 Wireless-B, 2.3GHz, 802.11b adapter. I have
been using a wired network at home which is networking two computers
through a wired D-Link router and all has been just fine. However,
I’m totally ignorant when it comes to wireless.

The reason for getting the wireless adapter for the laptop was to
connect with a friend’s wireless network when I visit his home. Since
I live in the country and do not have access to broadband (cable, dsl
or wireless), I must goto his house and get on his broadband network
in order to do big M$ updates and download large files of interest. I
have been using his USB thumb wireless adapter to do so. Anyway, I
decided to buy my own adapter to do this with and so…. The above is
what I have.

Now the question….. This thing came with a card in side the box
saying the following:

[START COPY]
The Wireless-B Notebook Adapter, WPC1 1 ver. 4, is a high-performance
CardBus product. Therefore it will not work with Windows NT. It will
also not work in the following Linksys wireless-ready products:

• BEFCMUH4, Cable Gateway
• BEFDSR41W, ADSL Gateway
• BEFIR41W, ISDN Gateway
• BEFSR41W, EtherFast® Cable/DSL Wireless-Ready Router with 4-Port
Switch
• BEFSR41W-RN, EtherFast Ricochet Router
• PPS1 UW, EtherFast Wireless-Ready USB PrintServer.

If you need product support for the WPC1 1 ver. 4, or you want to
exchange it for the WPC1 1 ver. 3, which will work with the devices
listed above and Windows NT, then call Linksys 24-hour Technical
Support at 800-542-9328.

Okay, I could care less if it is not compatible with NT since I run XP
Home. However, all this other stuff that it says it is not compatible
with!!!! Should I return this thing because of this or are these
noncompatibilities anything I should worry myself with?

Thanks in advance....
Tom

I would say the only time you should worry about the incompatibilities is if
you are trying to interface with any of those products. If its something
that keeps you up at night then call linksys and exchange it.

Robert....
