Links not working

I am using IE 6.0.2 on XP Home Edition, AMD Athlon XP 2000, 1.00GB of ram.

About two weeks ago, out of the blue ( in other words, I cannot equate with
any new downloads or fresh installs) IE began acting wonky. Certain pages -
for example, Yahoo, Google, Amazon and ESPN will not transition from their
home pages; I can pull up the home dot come, but not navigate at all within
the site. Clicking on any in-site links produces no results, no page
transitions, no working program icon in the upper left right of the browser
window. Performing a right-click and selecting Open In New Window only opens
a blank page, with no url in the address bar. However, selecting Save Target
As... to my desktop will save the page I wish to open on my desktop, and
will open completely intact, but, since C drive has become the source,
obviously any links on the page saved does not work. Links sent to me via
email in OE will not open, nor those in my favorites file.

Perhaps even more strangely, another IE account under a different user on
the same computer works fine.

I have run Ad Aware, Spybot AND Hijackthis. I ran Norton and followed up
with McAfee. I reset all the defaults of IE, in case it was something I did.
Lastly, I used a different Administrator account, and deleted the TIF,
History and Cookies files as directed by mvps.org.

The problem still exists. I have considered wiping and reinstalling, but
gasoline and a match is also becoming an attractive prospect. Is there
anything else I may try?
