Hi Charles. I again tried numerous times, and it keeps saying that the
coupon is not worth coonshit for that product, and it does not reduce
the cost. The closest I got to any download page is for the sourse
code, and apparently that isn't worth poop to me, either. I was now
wondering, as you have been able to get it twice, could you burn a copy
for me and send it via snail mail? I am still awaiting the CD that
Susan sent, but Canada post is so retarded that I probably won't get it
until late next week at the soonest. Therefore, I won't get the Lindows
from you until summer ;-). I would sincerely appreciate it. -PK-

Clicked your link, clicked the link in the 5th paragraph, applied the
coupon, and I still owe $49.95. The ode is only good for that
BitTorrent thingy.

No, it still works ... I just did it a second time ...
Read my postings in this thread.
And have an outlook at:
http://shop.linspire.com/user/mylindows_download_library.php

Have fun ;_)
C.

You keep saying saying it still works, but when I (and apparently several other
people) try it we just get:
"Coupon LINDOWS is not intended for the product/service you are trying to apply
it to."

What are we doing wrong?
Do you have to register for a "Lindows account" in order to get this offer?

Chris.

I guess the offer must have expired then - I think the reason why some
of us can still get it to work (including me) is because I registered
a few days ago - so whenever I go to a linspire site (any of them) a
cookie tells them I am registered.

The facts :

It is only the bittorrent isos which are free.

If you registered in time, you can still get them.

If you registered in time, you did not need to give over any credit
card details - I was asked for an email address (gave throwaway
hotmail addie) and a user name (made one up) and all worked smoothly,
very quick download through bittorrent.

The opinion:

Problem - when did the offer run out, and is it still possible - I
don't want to delete my linspire cookie - so don't wanna try myself
:)

cheers.

PS - why doesn't someone who knows what they are doing put this up on
a public tracker -in fact, did someone not do this already ?

It works just fine, if you want to jump through all the hoops to get to it.

I quit when they wanted my credit card number "in case" of excess charges
after my 15 day free trial membership expires.

The download was in my cart, billed at $0.00.

Here was something interesting - if you quit your free trial membership
before the 15 days is up (in other words, before they've begun to bill you
for it) any software you've installed on your computer will be
automatically disabled.

Sounds like the old bait and switch trick to me. They can keep it.
Or you could just install stuff the old fashioned way...

I started the download via Bittorrent last night, so it's still there. I
gave it up when I saw that it was going to take over 400 hours. :(

I had the email confirmation etc this morning, but got fed up
with the details wanted, address, telephone number etc and
please select correct address state.in red.
Then to cap it all there was two clickable options at the bottom,
"create new address" (yes another details as above) and "cancel"
talk about going in circles.

help ?

This is the page that explains it all:
http://www.linspire.com/lindows_michaelsminutes_archives.php?id=112

And it says:

Q: Is there any promotion related to the new name?

A: We'd like to take out full-page ads in the Wall Street Journal, PC
World and eWeek, but our budget doesn't allow for that. We have
something even better planned though. For the next few days, we have a
special offer where you can receive a copy of Linspire,
hot-off-the-presses for free. That's right zero dollars. But there's a
catch - actually two. First, you must use a special coupon code.
Simply click on $49.95 Linspire 4.5 OS from the order page. Then click
on the 'Apply Coupon' button and enter the coupon code. Second, the
download will only be available from our BitTorrent P2P system so our
servers don't melt. Don't worry if you've never tried BitTorrent. It
runs on Microsoft Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers and is easy
to get started. We'll give you step by step instructions. And no, it's
not an oversight that I haven't provided the actual coupon code.
You'll have to guess what the one-word code is.

And of course we all know what that code is.

Notice it says for the next few days - that was last week.

I tried it last week and it worked fine.

My problem was I did not have an account. So I applied for one and
they said they would send an email confirmation.

And of course that never happened.

So many places say they will email you and then the email never
arrives for whatever reason. Or they expect you to wait five hours
until it does and then come back.

Morons.
